How to check whether your brand appears in ChatGPT — and why once isn't enough

2026-07-27 · Figures update whenever the measured data is refreshed

The fastest way to find out is to ask. The catch is that asking badly buys you false reassurance or false panic. Here is how to check properly, and the traps we hit while building the dataset.

Checking it yourself

  1. Phrase it the way a customer would. Not “vet clinic recommendations” but “where can my dog get patellar luxation surgery done well?” — a conversational sentence, not a search query, is what returns the answer your actual customers see.
  2. Ask in a fresh conversation. If your brand came up earlier in the thread, the model carries that context forward and the result is contaminated.
  3. Ask with web search switched on.Without it you get the model’s trained memory — in our data Gemini answered more than half its runs from memory alone.
  4. Ask all four engines. In 86% of our questions there was zero overlap between engines. Being absent from ChatGPT tells you nothing about Grok.

The trap — one check is a snapshot

97%

Share of citations GPT replaced when the same question was put to the same model again about three days later (measured)

Appearing today doesn’t mean appearing next week, and missing today doesn’t mean missing forever. We watch clinics that were recommended last week vanish this week, every week. What means something is not one result but how often you appear across repeated measurements — how many times out of how many asks.

How we measure it — including on ourselves

Korea AI Pulse puts the same real user questions to all four engines every week and preserves the raw answers and the citations exactly as returned. Once repeated runs of the same question accumulate, you can see how often your brand appears, who is occupying the slot instead, and which sources the engine read to arrive there.

We run the same experiment on ourselves. We track weekly whether Korea AI Pulseappears in the answer to “is there a service that checks whether my brand shows up in ChatGPT?” — and the first measurement, on 2026-07-27, came back zero out of four engines.Foreign tools were named instead. How that number moves from here is the honest scoreboard for whether this site’s own GEO works. The whole thing is published on the GEO and AI marketing vertical.

Checking your own brand right now

  • Search your brand name in the collection log to see whether it appears in any raw answer we have gathered so far.
  • Open your vertical — vet clinics, law firms, restaurants, tech and fintech, insurance, fortune telling — and read the brand board for the current standings in your category.
  • If a question you care about isn’t being tracked, tell us on contact — the question set keeps growing.
